Default Evan's Creek

So there's been talk about a Evan's Creek run. So I will take it open myself to start a thread. I want to go, but here's my situation. My Jeep has a 3 / 3.5 inch lift, Open Diff's, and no winch. I've ran Tahuya several times and want to explore something new. Would my rig pass through a few trails at Evan's? If I go, anyone here know the trails well enough to show me around? I'm sure there's plenty of people wanting to go, so lets see were this thread goes.

I'm always in for an Evans Creek run. I love the place. With things dry like they are you should be able to make it through a couple of the trails with no problems. To have a really good day and run most trails at Evans you need Minimum 33 inch tires, at least a rear locker and your own winch. Oh, and no fear of body damage helps a lot!! If you can get Tim (Cherokeefever), Branden aka Chericon (97XJsport) and/or Bill (Billsilund) to come along, they are awesome guys to wheel with and they all know Evans Creek like their own backyard.....probably, well, because Evans Creek is in their backyard. They are all Bonney Lake Boys. Post a date and I'm in if I have it free of family commitment.

For any serious wheeling anywhere a winch and/or lockers is highly reccomended. I would start with the winch as that is probably the most important piece of equipment on any wheeling rig. You can do Evans open-open on 32s with a winch. If you cant afford one then I would start looking for a lunchbox locker. Front or rear it doesnt matter, either will give you a big improvement in traction. You can find one for $200 - $250 and install it yourself in your driveway in a couple hours. Or PM me and for a 6 pack I will help you install it. If none of those options work then find a friend with lockers and a winch who can drive in front of you and pull you out when you get stuck. There are easier trails at Evans that you probably do without assistance, but those are not the ones that I enjoy running.

Well that's not the news I wanted to hear. I still have a clean straight rig and want to keep it that way. I guess I will keep looking around for a easier trail I can run on my own. Being a broke college guy, I can't afford to drop another grand on upgrades yet.

If you dont like the idea of body damage then you probably want to avoid Evans Creek. The trails are tight and steep. You could probably make it through the lower 311, lower 520, and 198 without damage, but that's about it. I would suggest you start by running the Naches trail. I've done it before in an open-open Ford Ranger on 32s. There is little chance of body damage on that run. You may also want to head down to Elbe Hills ORV park. The trails there are much wider and there are bypasses for all the really gnarly parts. You could run everything there except for the busywild in your rig. It is a fun place for rigs of mixed abilities cause you can take the easy line while you watch the big boys take the crazy line. At Evans there are no bypasses for any of the hard spots and almost every trail has a tight spot that can result in body damage.

I don't care about scratch's and minor dents I can pop out, But I don't want smashed fenders or busted out windows. In other news, Billy Bob's will install an ARB front locker w/ compressor for $1200(Including labor) My first paycheck I'm buying me front air lockers.

Wow!! $1200 was what both of my lockers, offset carriers, ring & pinions and install kits cost. My Labor was free, though...LOL!!

Ive been meaning to ask you, if I buy parts and tools will you show me how to set up gears? Someday, not anytime in the immediate future. I have a feeling its a skill I'm going to need.

Sure can but I'm no pro by any means. I just put common sense towards installing gears and they've always come out quiet and they work. I did grenade the first set of gears I put in my D30 in my Jeep but that happened 4 years after I installed them. Still not sure what happened there but the pinion gear did break in half. I think the metal in the gear itself failed after much abuse off road.
