Okay guys, I figured we better start a thread and get the word out there. The DNR apparently has deicated "Police Officers" now. Not just Forest Service Rangers. I saw a group of four of them up at Walker Valley OHV area on Saturday. They were well equipped with sidearms, badges, full uniform, 4x4 trucks and even Marked Police dirtbikes. They were walking around talking to everybody there looking for illegal substances, drinking and driving, vehicle registration and insurance and or course our good friend the Discovery Pass.
Another guy said he was approached, challenged and given a $203 ticket by a guy at Tahuya State Forest OHV area for not having a Discovery Pass in his vehicle. He wasn't even on a trail. He had just pulled into the campground.
So, my question is was anybody up at Evans Creek OHV area or Elbe Hills OHV area this last weekend and if so did you see any of these DNR Police Officers?
The thing is they are out there. I'm glad they are out there. If you are following all of the laws and not doing anything you are not supposed to be doing...things THAT WILL GET OUR 4WHEELING AREAS CLOSED DOWN!!!!! Then, these police officers will be no threat to you. Consider yourselves warned. Get your Discover Pass. Don't drink and drive on the trails. Keep the registration and insurance current on all your vehicles. Don't venture off the marked trail system or cut or remove trees and rocks, then there should be no worrys.

I just got online and bought my Washington state Discover Pass. It was $35.00 and is good for a year. It was very easy. Just go to https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov/ use your credit card and its a done deal. You print out the temporary pass online that's good for 10 days so you can use the DNR areas until you get your official Discover Pass in the mail.
I am a Disabled Veterans Lifetime Pass holder and this card does not get you into Washington State DNR Managed areas without purchase of a Discovery Pass. I'm sure the new DNR Police are going to get tired of hearing that excuse. LOL...it got me by once. So, get your Discover Pass. $35 is a lot better than the $100 or $200 fine...I've heard both...that is charged when you get caught in a DNR area without a Discover pass.

Ya, I imagine they will be hitting orv and holiday camping weekends hard this year! They were leanient last year but it has been out almost a year now and talked about a lot.
I got mine when i renewed my tabs, they sent it in the mail. Will be the easiest way for me to remember every year.
While i disagree with the pass itself and why it was put out, Do i have a choice, if I want to keep wheeling? no

If you have a tow rig you must have 2 different passes. one for your tow rig and one for your offroad rig

And didn't it change this year where one pass was good for two diff plate numbers?

Ya they changed it so its good for 2 vehicles, but if u are using both vehicles at the same time, i.e. tow rig and jeep, you need 2 passes.
every vehicle must have one physical pass on the vehicle on dnr land.
If u use your jeep to wheel and your truck to go fishing, you can move the pass between vehicles, but if u have your truck and your jeep on a campsite, each vehicle must have their own. STUPID *** law in my opinion.

I hope the powers that be at Walker adapt the vehicle axle width limit posts like they installed at Evans. Some of the trails are starting to look like highways because guys are taking their monster sized rigs down them.

It has nothing to do with being perfect. It has everything to do with having a little common sense and situational awareness which is lost proportionally with the amount of beer consumed. How much luck would you have convincing a cop you were just drinking a beer while driving around town for fun? I bet you'd get that DUI whether you'd had one sip or 15 beers if you had that beer in your hand when you got pulled over....and you are you trying fool, any? REALLY?? Who drinks 1 or 2 beers while their doing something else fun in a group of guys? If you expect me to believe you and your buddies head out to the trails somewhere, drink your "couple of beers for fun", then just stop drinking beer for the rest of the day while you're wheeling, forget, I'm not buying it.
