last year opening day at evans we got outta the trail at like 12:00 in the morning and the cops were sittign there with snow cats and lights flashing, looking in my jeep with flash lights and stuff.

The cops that were in the parking lot at Walker weren't being pushy or aggressive at all. They were just walking around and talking with people. They were very polite and professional. The cop I talked to never even looked at my Jeep.

I had a couple thoughts on some of the discussions here. First off I have to agree with Buck about drinking and driving. That is primarily what the DNR and USFS enforcement people are looking for because they know that a lot of wheelers do it. I used to be one of those wheelers but not any more. Even though you are not traveling at high speeds and there are no vehicles going the opposite direction there are still many opportunities to seriously injur yourself, someone else, or your rig by driving impaired and making a bad judgement call. Wheeling is still very fun when you're sober, save the booze for later.
I also really like that sticker. The Discover Pass is a joke. Only like $1.25 of that $35 actually goes to wheeling. I think we would all be better off paying $35 annually to WOHVA. The Washington Off Highway Vehicle Alliance, is the group of people in our state who directly help the wheeling community through legislation. If you want to pay money to help our sport giving it to them is the best way to do it. My goal this year is to donate at least as much to WOHVA as I spend on passes for my vehicles. If every wheeler did that we would have a much more powerful voice down in Olympia.

Latest update from the DNR. I spoke with the chief of police from the Department of Natural resource and he told me that, The guys in Gun Metal gray Ford F-150's are POLICE OFFICERS and have the authority to pull you over and cite you for anything. The guy that got me at Tahuya last weekend violated his authority by boxing me in and giving me a ticket. He was in a new red F-150 and he is NOT an officer for the DNR. He is there to enforce Discover Pass for driving / parking, and codes for Quads / Bikes. He also said that if someone from the DNR has a gun they should be uniformed officers, The guy who stopped me had no uniform and was clearly carrying a firearm on his hip. So if a red F-150 is following you with exempt plates, He's probably waiting for you to stop somewhere so they can approach you.

All of the officers I saw at Walker Valley were driving the Gun Metal Gray Ford F-150s and they were in full uniform with Badges and DNR Police patches on them. Plus, they were very polite, courteous and professional. It was very obvious they were real police officers. I really don't ever want to run into that clown you saw in the red F-150, plane clothes, packing a gun and with a bad attitude.

So who does the Un-uniformed guy in the Un-marked red F-150, work for? AND if he is NOT authorized to carry a gun, issue tickets when not in uniform, what are the DNR police going to do to straighten him out??? That parking/camping area way out there in Tahuya is an awfully lonely and kinda scarey place to be when you're approached by a guy who is angry, yelling and carrying a gun....when you are not!!!

The man who was driving the un-marked F150 was in fact an employee of the DNR. He DOES have the authority to ticket you but DOES NOT have the authority to chase you down and pull you over. He can walk up to your window and ask for your license and discover pass. And YES your correct about the gun, he is NOT aloud to have it. I've already filled a case against him and will have the ticket dropped. I made my point very clear with his boss that had it been someone armed that he stopped, his employee runs this risk of being shot with the attitude he had and the firearm he had clearly on his hip.

Thank you, I got an email an email from the chief of police this morning. He was very kind and apologized for the officers behavior. He also was kind enough to call the mason county courthouse and have the ticket dropped. Overall I have much respect for the DNR and what they do. I believe they do a good job keeping our lands open for use for all of us to use.

I bet you'd get that DUI whether you'd had one sip or 15 beers if you had that beer in your hand when you got pulled over....and you are you trying fool, any? REALLY?? Who drinks 1 or 2 beers while their doing something else fun in a group of guys? If you expect me to believe you and your buddies head out to the trails somewhere, drink your "couple of beers for fun", then just stop drinking beer for the rest of the day while you're wheeling, forget, I'm not buying it.

Tyrone, I'm having a hard time making heads or tails of your comments. Are you saying the Forum is gay? That you think me not liking guys drinking while driving on the trail is gay? That my Homebrew Super 30 thread was gay? Just what the F UCK are you trying to say, Buddy?

tbrown and 88 you are idiots. talking **** to someone who supports the wheeling community. this guy is trying to give everybody a heads up and maybe help others avoid a ticket. go buy a civic and quit poisoning our community, there is no point to join in a random thread and talk ****.
