I understand your talking about actual trucks, but you have the option of licensing your vehicle as an orv and will get the same tags as an atv. Not sure what the benefit would be though as the orv tags if I recall cost more than the Discover Pass.
I've personally never owned a vehicle dedicated to offroad use but after a few minutes reading found there are multiple ways to register one. I'm sure no one opts for getting actual orv tags and just register as an off road vehicle.
Either way the whole discover pass and all the other passes are BS. they need to come up with one pass to cover all bases.

when i was up in greenwater i had my discovery pass in my window and got stopped up on a F/R and almost got a ticket cuz apparently the discovery pass dosent work up there the ranger said you need a forest pass to....wtf make one damn pass cover everything and we pay for the passes to help our land and what not and forest roads but they still keep gates closed for no reason.....grinds my gears

They have two different passes because the funds from each one go to different causes. Discover pass is for state funds and the national forest is national parks funds....

This discover pass is ridiculous every little area that you could pull into or possibly stop and enjoy a view the pass is needed.
