Default Blown head

XJ overheated big time, burning all the coolant out the exhaust and such.

Worth it to rebuild or just go to a dealership and get an XJ?

I was thinking ZJ because of the coil rear end, but with an XJ I could swap my old upgrades over and part it out.
I can't afford to buy one outright. Hell, if I could do that I'd just go to the darkside and pick up an 06 TJ.

I have an 89, looking at a 99 for $6k or cheaper. I need one by this Monday hopefully.
Thoughts on what would be cheapest/easier?

I agree. I wouldn't even dream of buying another cherokee just cuz I blew a head gasket or something. Just fix what you have unless it's your only rig. Then I suggest getting something else and keeping the XJ as a Wheeler. It's not a good idea wheeling your daily driver if you've got nothing else to get to work Monday :-)

I would venture there are a dozen 4.0 in CL right this second in your area that you could pick up tonight and drop in yours.

Bought a '99.

I'll be parting out the 89. Not exactly built by any means, but all stock armor. HPD30, D35 LS 3.55 gears. White 4 door, power everything.

5K from a dealership. No bad I suppose, and it's clean as all get out. Never been wheeled or anything. I realize 5k is high, but I don't trust most of the people on craigslist and such. At least from a stealership I get SOME piece of mind.

Lol really? Peace of mind buying from a used car dealer. Never woulda thunk it! grats on the new xj, 99 is going to be my next xj.

You should keep your 89 and build it up. Motor swaps are stupid simple... Then you could mildy build your 99 for dd and wheel your 89. Still have a ride to work on monday!
