Hey All,
So... finally got around to partially tearing down my Renix 4.0 that went to **** in my XJ just before Christmas. Listed a few photos below.Got the valve cover off, things looked as expected for a 260k miles 4.0. Heads looked in fairly decent shape. Then got the heads off, and well lets just say I noticed something missing right off the bat lol. Cylinder 6 missing the piston (still haven't retrieved it from oil pan), and the cylinder wall was gouged. Doesn't look like I will be reusing this block unless I get the liner pressed out and a new one pressed in but at that rate, might as well get another block and rebuild it.
What do you you all think I should do? Get another block from JY and rebuild it, or should I get a new cylinder wall liner pressed in or should I turn this into a stroker?
*Don't mind 4.0 on the ground lol... haven't gotten around to putting it on engine stand, about to do that now.*

A junk yard block may have it's own hidden problems.
I would strip the current block, have it dipped and then magnafluxed...
If it passes, then the machine shop replacing the cylinder liner can make sure the block and heads are flat and true.

I would be reluctant to re-use that block if lots of metal has (likely) gone through the oil galleries, let alone anything else, and it would cost you a lot more than a used engine

If you and the block met in grammar school and dated all through high school and got married and have been together for 50 years I'd say bore and sleeve that block with all the cleanout and such. If you met that block two weeks ago near beer o'clock and went home together, it's time to go back to the bar and get another block.
