Default Yoke bolt replacement

I got under my xj to put the driveshaft in to find that my missing yoke bolt was a sheared yoke bolt. I couldnt get it out with an easy out so I ended up drilling through it. My options have came down to 2 things. Order a new yoke for $38, or drill the holes out so it just knocks the threads out and put longer bolts with a nut and lock washer through. The second option would make it to where I wouldn't encounter stuck sheared bolts again, but I'm not sure it would work. I'm 95% certain longer bolts would work, and would possibly be a better idea. Any input is appreciated, and no, I don't want u bolts. Thanks

If you change the yoke, you can get the upgraded one with U bolts so you don't have the little bolts to deal with. Since the year of yours isn't listed, here's one.

I do not want U bolts. Either get a repacent factory yoke, or drill mine.

A new yoke will cost the same as the upgraded one if you go that way.

Just not a fan of U bolts in general. Its 38$ for factory replacement, or $6 for me to drill the holes and put heavy duty bolts through.

Drilling or using u-bolts is less work.

If you change the yolk and believe in factory procedure, you'll need to set the pinion preload on the new one same as the old one which means you'll need at least a beam style torque wrench.

Install a new yoke then if you don't like upgraded style with U-Bolts.

I had this same issue so I welded the clamp on that one side.
