Default Yet another oil leak thread.

Hey all, I was reading through some of the other oil leak threads and they are getting long, so ask away!

My problem is that after replacing oil pan gasket and the rms since I was there, I still leak oil. However I tracked it up the pan to one of the bolts, why would the bolt be leaking and how do I fix it.

Oh it's a felpro rubber molded gasket with metal center, it goes around the bolt entirely.

That can happen if the pan lip is damaged (not flat) or the bolts are over (or under) tightened. 114 in/lbs for the 1/4" bolts and 156 in/lbs for the larger corner bolts. That's about 10 and 13 ft/lbs. Not very much torque.

I was told that the torque specs were 86 in lbs for the 1/4" and 132 for the larger bolts. I also looked up general specs for grade 5 1/4-20 bolts and that is only 76 in lbs. Here is the link for that info: http://www.almabolt.com/pages/catalo...ningtorque.htm
I know the lip is flat as it is a brand new pan and has only been taken off 3 times now and the oil comes from the boot hole and runs down the threads and onto the pan.

Any bolts for oil or coolant I usually put a small bit of black rtv silicone on the threads to make sure it doesn't leak just to be safe, might try taking the bolt out and putting a drop on and re tighten.

Thanks for the help guys! I put on some rtv and no more running oil, now I'm going to watch for seepage and hopefully I will have a leak free jeep.

me neither.

The oil filter adapter is my last leak. After RMS and pan gasket. I had a few bolts leaking oil too and i cranked them *****es down. No idea how much torque but prolly 30 - 50 FT LBS. No more leaks. besides the filter one...

Apparently they don't, thought I made one though! Still got a small leak, the last two spots that can leak is the distributer gasket and the oil pressure sending unit. Got both coming in tomorrow morning, I'm so close to fixing all my leaks.

Ok I don't know how many people have viewed this thread but here it everything that I've done:
Valve cover gasket x3
Removed oil filter adapter
New distributer gasket
New oil pressure sending unit
Rtved around the head gasket
New oil pan gasket x3
New rms x2
Pcv system is clear
New ccv hose
New oil filler cap

I still have a leak from somewhere but I don't know where. Any ideas?
