I've been searching and searching for the super comfortable jeep grand cherokee seats for a year and half now. At last I found an amazing set for the cherokee at the local jy out of a super low mileage GC. However there is huge problem. I got the driver's side no problem quick and easy however there is a hornets nest in the passenger side door jam!
I made away with the drivers however the passenger is still at the yard due to the flying demons. It kills me not to have matching seats, what would you do in this situation? Got some spray to wipe them out however I'd like a second opinion!

 

Use the spray. I do that at least a half dozen times where I live in the farm country

If you think one can will do the job... bring 3 or 4. If you can see the nest, spray at least 2 cans on it. You have to watch out for foragers coming back to the nest as well. Might take more then a few minutes. If it is a true hornets nest...with the football looking nest, good luck. The last one I encountered like that got me stung as I was sneaking up to the nest at night time! I ended up spraying it with gas from a garden sprayer with the wand hanging out the slightly opened window of the XJ...that is true drop dead spray. They were hitting the windshield like bb's from a bb gun.

Really, you might try informing the yard owners and see if they will rid the vehicle of the critters.

 

Agreed. Gas kills em instantly! There’s a hornets nest in the woods behind my house somewhere. That’s one insect that plays no games.
If it’s just a wasp nest, brake clean works good. Like sig220 said, watch out for the ones returning.

I deliver propane and our company supplies wasp and hornet spray. You know it's a great self defense weapon to carry in your car, right?

 

Just about anything will kill wasps, even soapy water. The problem is killing them before they can sting you, that is where it can be a little slow. Stuff that kills them after they sting is not a good thing!

When we acquired our cabin at the creek, the wasps BIG black and BIG red and the BRIGHT red ones as well were in control. After finding their hibernation spots and spraying them then filling them (in the siding of the cabin) we only have a few "explorers" each spring. Keep a can of spray at the top of the stairs at the bottom, in the shed and in each vehicle just for peace of mind. Rarely have to use it now. In the "wild" they will actually build a nest in small trees along a water source which makes clearing brush a real adventure!

 

The real trick is to get them as early in the morning or night as possible. That eliminates any fliers, otherwise you will be trying to shoot them out of the air

 

I deal with this every year when it comes time to get the CJ ready for plowing. Close the doors with the windows up (if that's possible for the OP) and set off a bug fogger.

I appreciate hearing everyone's horror stories out there! I was a young boy and had one stuck down my shirt one time, no good. A healthy respect for those buggers.

I ended up getting super lucky and found the passenger side seat out of a 94 GC in another JY in Sherwood OR. Passenger side is always easier to find in good shape. However the leather is slightly less soft then the low milage wasp infested jeep in Vancouver Wa. Anyways they match after 2 years of having mismatched seats in the heep so I am a super happy camper. Plus I didn't have to go to war.

Only complaint is that they don't lean forward to make the 2door cherokee back seat user friendly but who needs a back seat in the land of covid lolz

If you use spray test the can prior for good stream and distance and don't do it when wind is blowing!
