Default Yakima Racks Setup

Im currently using a Yakima Mega Warrior with extension attached to the stock cross bars. Its really freaking noisy and irritating when wheeling or along bumpy roads.
Im going to buy the rain gutter mounts and a set of 58" crossbars, my question is will I need the extended mounts to clear the old rack rails on my '01 or can I just use the regular ones??

I was looking at the drip rail mount also, but I wasn't into the way they looked. i went with yakima railriders 1's, they mounted in the factory tracks and i removed the old factory crossbars. I went with 48in crossbars, (48in fits since your not going all the way to each drip rail) and second hand yakima fork mount bike trays. very good setup spent $120ish with the yakima fairing. check out ebay for the rail riders. Every bump or rumble it responds. Its just the cross rail and I dont like the way they mount up, besides, when I hit the trail and go camping I carry alot of gear, including a spare tire, and the factory rails are only rated for so many pounds before they start to buckle. The Yakima cross bars are made to handle a bit more load....

ah, i misunderstood. i thought it mounted to the side rails that the crossbars mount to, not the crossbars themselves. the stock crossbars are pretty flimsy. the normal gutter mounts will suffice, if not, just pop the stock crossbars off. lower the rack is the better.
