Default Xj code deciphering

My 97 xj is reading 0743 and 0700 codes. I've done some research and found it's to do with the TC and the TCM. But my jeep is running and shifting fine. No problems at all. Should I worry about this?

Pull your NSS, disassemble, clean/lub with dielectric grease, re-assemble and re-install.

Well, it's trying to tell you something....try resetting the code first, and see if it comes back. If it does, then you'll need a scan tool that will talk to the TCM. From obd-codes.com on the P0743:

Potential causes may include: Low or dirty transmission fluid Wire/circuit issue shorted to power or ground Failed torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid Failed TCC assembly in the torque converter Failed PCM/ECM/EMC Note: This may well be an intermittent condition and may not show up again, so clear the code and keep monitoring.

Excellent. Will a jeep specific code reader such as at the dealer tell more? I'll print that link and show my mechanic tomorrow. He replaced my o2s and shut the light off, but it came back on. First thing tomorrow I'll check tran fluid.

1) why did you check for codes in the first place? what problem did you have?
2) clear your codes and see if it comes back. For the same token its an old code.

The cel has been on since I bought the jeep. I replaced two o2 sensors and cleared codes. They came back on next morning. Jeep run and drives fine, gets better gas mileage now that's for sure, but only in result to o2 sensor. I had the codes read with a universal scanner. I'm going to have my tech check the wiring, I'm going to change my fluid, and if that doesn't work I'll test ohms on 3rd solenoid.

Hmmm maybe bad gas cap? we can chase this all day. CEL can be from all kinds of things. you need to Scan for codes now.

Do this first. Check the fluid, or better yet, do a partial change and top off. Reset code and monitor.

A universal scanner will give you the code, and even shut it off, but in order to properly diagnose transmission codes you need a reader that communicates with the TCM specifically to further diagnose. The dealership should have it if that's where you want to take it, but other smaller shops in your area may have one. Try some transmission shops as well.

Cool. I'll have to find someone with the right code reader. Thanks! What's a test to see if TC is working? Jeep shifts in OD fine, revs in low 2's at about 65, 33s are throwing speedo off so this is a guesstimate. I've tried tapping the brakes got nothing, my brake lights come on fine.
