Default XJ Cherokee Auto Transmission Problem

Hello today i took my Cherokee out mudding and i hit a large rock and popped the right front tyre, i changed the tyre and drove the car for a couple minutes and I noticed it wasnt running right. It felt like as if the clutch was slipping, I stopped and looked underneath the car and it was leaking a lot of transmission fluid. One of the metal hoses coming from the tranny cooler had been cracked from the suspension hitting it, when i put in to 1-2, 3 or D and try to drive, the engine will just rev up like its in neutral.

Could this issue possibly be caused by having no ATF left?

Welcome to CF. That will do it. Stop trying to drive it before you ruin the transmission. Repair the damaged line and refill the transmission.

You can use a piece of hose and 2 hose clamps to repair the metal line if you can't find/can't afford to replace the whole metal line. Cut the line where the leak is, put the hose and clamps on the line, then put the other end of the line into the hose. Tighten clamps. Fill the trans and check for leaks.

You're welcome. It's good you caught it before it damaged the trans.

Hey Blue, I've got a new problem with the tranny. The tranny jerks and feels like its grinding in first and second, it doesn't always shift smoothly. Have you got any ideas?
I've checked the tranny dipstick while the car is idling in neutral and its full and it also doesn't smell like it's burnt.
Cheers

Sorry for the slow reply, but I'm on vacation.
I don't really have an answer, as I don't know too much about transmissions. Sorry.

FLARE THE ENDS OF THE LINES!

FLARE THE ENDS OF THE LINES!

FLARE THE ENDS OF THE LINES!

If you just slap rubber hose on a cut trans cooler line they WILL leak....no matter how many clamps you put on...
