XJ Ask the Question Thread
Thanks. Found something called Red Devil or something, but seems randomly crappy. I was just thinking of something I could use to livefeed into my phone or other item for recording
I've had the Check Engine Light on for some time with no codes. I purchased a small code reader and today I go P0135 - Upstream O2 Sensor. I replaced my sensor and no more CEL.
Question: For the last year I have had the parts stores run codes on my Jeep and nothing was showing up. My mechanic friend hooked me up to his computer and did not pull any codes. Now today I get a code and now I do not have a CEL light.
What would cause it to not show a code but still have CEL light?

I bought an 04 and the headlight switch does nothing. The lights work great, but only turn on and off based off of the dash sensor. So basically they work as automatic no matter where the switch is set. Not really a problem until its daylight and foggy. I've replaced the switch no change. Has remote start and aftermarket audio.
That is for OBD2, I need an OBD1 if that is possible. Just thinking about something to monitor o2 sensor info and things like that. I know they don't store info the same way but I thought it would still show the sensors?

This isn't really jeep related but i got a little LED light that I want to use for when I need a light under the hood out on the trails. It's got an AC adapter on it and I was wondering if I can just cut it off and crimp it to the DC adapter. Is this safe? Or will I need a fire extinguisher?

You will need a resistor to knock the feed down a few volts for the LEDs so you don't burn them out. When the alternator is running you get about 14V - great for halogen lights specced at 12V, but not so great when you increase voltage into some diodes by almost 40% lol

Looks like you should be fine. You can even tap it to the battery to test it out. Adapter even shows striped is positive. Be mindful of that. Remember, go positive to battery and black to ground. Test like that before doing the adapter. I can't remember how those adapters run the negative wire, meaning a cars DC goes back to the battery, those set of LED should be fine going to a ground. Give it a test to the battery. Worst case it just doesn't light up

what's a resistor. I just had this light laying around. I don't wanna spend any money on it to make it work. Is that somthing I can cut off of another accessory? I got a drawer full of wires and old electronics. Thanks in advance.

They're used to reduce voltage or limit current in a circuit. You'll want to find a calculator online to tell you what kind you need (how many ohms) to knock the voltage down enough. Even 11V should be fine.
They use to be a few cents at Radio Shack.

what about these resistors that are already inside the DC adapter?

I just end up fixing the wire so it's the way it was before. I'll probably get one of those DC to AC adapter plugins at RadioShack so I can use it for other stuff too.

The interfaces are totally different.
