I'm thinking about going up to 4.56 gears. How bad will it kill my fuel mileage?

Depends on tire size and weight. Manual or auto? Current ratio? Could help mileage.

Might just make the lawn edging flares and use the bolts that hold them on to help secure the splash shields. As far as the seam, Im just going to make relief cuts then hammer it down.
No picks. I used bushwacker flares. The splash shield is tucked in underneath or should I say between the flare and the fender.

Why did you choose to keep it? I'm curious.

I'd guess you'll lose mileage on the highway, but improve in city. I may be completely wrong about that, though. I don't think about my mileage; I just make sure there's enough money in my account to keep her from getting thirsty.

I usually don't either. I'm on the bike more than the Jeep, so $25 every two weeks is usually all I need for the Jeep.

Why not? Keeps mud from packing up inside the fender.

I've been thinking about grabbing an old mud flap from one of the tractor or trailers at work and riveting them in.

I have no idea. Other than it seems easier to get the Georgia red clay out of the well spaces with them on. I have been in the process of swopping items from that XJ to another one. I have not decided on keeping them on or not.

Most people yank them cause they don't fit right with trimmed fenders (unless you modify the liner), and a common fix is to shove a pool noodle in the fender. Nothing wrong with keeping it. I was just wondering.

I'd say it would improve mpg everywhere, and would make the automatic trans last a lot longer.
