Im pretty sure i never bumped anything under the hood, but it is too dark to look tonight, i would have to check it in the morning. but im pretty sure i never bumped any vacuum hoses or anything going into the firewall.

10w30 is perfect for those temperatures. You used the right weight, so that shouldn't be the problem.

Cruiser, I was about to ask if you think it could be C101, but then I remembered who I'm talking to.

PBR, check out this helpful page that Cruiser keeps in his signature:
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/cr...x-tips-153657/

It will solve a lot of problems with your Renix motor ('87-90 XJs had Renix motors; not High Output). Even if you aren't having trouble, do some of these things may make the Jeep work better.

I never spilled anything, just removed the oil cap an put the funnel in and filled it up. would it matter that i didn't change the filter out this time since it has only seen about 2500 miles?

If the filter was working fine before, it should be working now. That is, unless you knocked loose sludge or something internal when you were filling it. That said, I do change my filter every time I change my oil. I don't know if that's standard practice, but it isn't expensive, and it can't hurt.

standard practice for me, i ALWAYS change the filter. Then again i always run synthetic and change the oil at 5k mile intervals.

I'm a little overdue. Like this should be my third change by now overdue.

I guess when my Renix dies, I'll do a stroker

You could always swap in the Camaro's engine...

I'm gonna punch you in the neck next time I see you, just for suggesting that. Three years and almost $10k on that cursed thing, and the drivetrain has less than 5k miles. It will not be touched.
