Post Xj another air inside the cab problem

So I just bought this 2001 cherokee sport. It's 4x4 and has 180k miles but I got it for $2700. I didn't even realize when I bought it that the air control inside the cab only works on 4 and doesn't come off of the defrost mode. I have read about them and saw that this is generally a vaccuum leak somewhere in the system of hoses. When I has looking around I saw a hose that was about 4inches long that came from the back of the engine compartment right next to where te mount for the freon for the a/c is. It's a hose right next to the bolt that holds the mount to the freon. I turned the fan on for the air/heat on 4 (the only one it would work on) and put my finger at the end of the hose. I felt air come out. I plugged it and still no results as far as the air working on 1,2 or 3 on the speeds. Where is that hose supposed to end up? And is that my problem?

You need a new blower motor resistor, then you will have all of the fan speeds. There is a vacuum reservoir behind the right side of the front bumper, make sure it's not damaged and hooked up.

Ok where's the resistor and do you think my hose that's going to nowhere is the problem of where my my air comes out?

The hose that's about a half an inch around? That is a drain hose for the evaporator.

the resistor is under the dash on the passenger side along with the blower motor itself.

check the canister under the bumper first, seems to be the culprit more often then not

here's a link to what the canister looks like behind he bumper

Ok I see the canister but what should I look for on the canister that would be the problem?

The vacuum line not connected, or a cracked reservoir. Follow the line and look for damage from battery acid near the battery.

Ok so I just went and saw the cord connected to the thing behind the bumper, I unplugged it and tried to pull it and it came right out and the line was cut. There's my problem!!! Where does the other end of that pipe connect too?

It follows the fender all the way to the firewall. Then it goes across the firewall.

I can't seem to find it. Does it come out of the circle hole about 4inches behind the headlight? And should I pull the rest of it out? And where can I find a new one?

no idea, never had to replace. We just repaired it with some sealant and made sure to give it plenty of dry time. Worked just fine.

Don't know who's who in this thread but for whomever is interested you may want to read through this thread and get some info on the AC vacuum system.
