You have a high output motor in there right now, that 88 motor is a renix or the low output motor. Personally I'd either rebuild your current 95 motor or find another ho motor. When chrysler came out with the ho they redesigned some things such as the intake ports which deems it as a "ho". I believe all 4.0l blocks are the same but the heads are what changed over the years. If you're dead set on getting this motor then I think it'd be best if you used your 95 head that way the intake ports line up still

Thanks man! ill prob swap heads and the intake idk what's wrong with the 95 motor it was pulled out of a 93 and it try's to start but won't the 1988 runs and drives 2door 4x4 it's clean with a title just the ft axle is missing i might just throw a axle in it and drive it and just have 2 xjs

That probably would be a lot easier to just throw a axle under it than doing a big engine shuffle

HO stands for Highly Overrated. It was a marketing ploy by Chrysler. 8 total horsepower difference only in the higher RPM range. Mostly because of a 58mm throttle body versus 52mm throttle body on the Renix. That, and a better exhaust manifold on the HO.

Just swap as a longblock. Use your 95 flywheel, manifolds, distributor, intake gasket and sensors. Easy as pie.

Sounds easy enough! Thanks man I might just do the motor swap the 95 is so much nicer but that 88 isn't bad either new motor trans and inside but I could always throw that in the 95 and make it even nicer lol

That's weird. What's the 10th digit in the VIN?

That's what I was thinking but its a 2door just needs a paint job and a front axle runs and sounds great running dual exhaust I'm thinking about just building both I think it would be Easier
