Default wow this one is weird....

alright so when i turn on my roof mounted reverse lights it primes my fuel pump.... I am so puzzled as to why!?

a bit more detail:

It is wired to relay just like my front facing roof lights (which have no issues). everything from the switches to the relay is the exact same. The only difference from the front ones to the rear ones are where they lead too.

The power to the rear runs from the relay under the trim (following the trailer wiring harness). It then goes thru the hole that is cut out for the lights and up to the roof rack.

i spliced into the reverse lights using one of these:

this is why i am curious as to why my fuel pump is priming

Yesterday I was tightening some temporary electric fence line that keeps my horses out of a hayfield next to their paddock. I do this all the time. Yesterday I got a stout shock from the fence charger (made my arms feel kinda numb and achey for a bit) and I thought...What did I do wrong?

I still don't know how I got zapped but electricity is weird. It follows the path of least resistance. So whatever you did when you spliced, I'd be money you nicked an adjacent wire and just enough juice is trickling through to trigger the pump or the pump relay. It can't happen any other way - like my fence charger. I looked at that fence again last night and still can't figure out how I got nicked.

I guess i will run thru the wire. And where i placed the splice was right at the socket of the factory reverse light.... HMMM idk lol.

Btw sory hear you got electrocuted. Been there a few times dealing our fences. (cows tho)

I work at a electric shop and I've seen a lot weirder problems when using those crimp taps. first step get rid of those and solder all your connections. solder is the one and only way to correctly make a electrical connection in a Jeep! In the process of this recheck all your wiring. you have tapped something you shouldn't have some were.

Maybe when you turn on the lights the voltage sags for a second, then when it comes back up, the fuel pump re-primes. Almost like a split-second loss of voltage at the fuel pump.

Alright so i am going to unplug the power to the lights off the relay and flip the switch if it is still priming then i know it is somewhere between the relay and switch. I will then pop the fuse out of the relay and flip the switch if if still primes i know it is the switch wiring.

Btw here is how i did all of my wiring: (again it is all exactly identical)

this is what the switch box looks like (but with one more switch in it)

this is what the relays look like:

this is how they are wired(there is 3 of them. the 3rd one is placed higher up)

all of the accessories meet up in one location:

So that they can get power: (the black wire is 6ga direct feed from the battery. It goes into the box and all of the accessories feed of of the box)

it then gets tucked up into the dash and velcro'd uptaken with camera on the seat)

That is the only thing that i have ever spliced into because i used a 3 way when i tapped into my fogs (orginally had my roof lights wired in with my fogs) but i then replaced the 3 way with a standard double butt connector and heat shrinked it.

Alright.

So i popped off the light power. flipped the switch. NO PRIMING! yay!

BUT.....

I took it out of reverse (manual gear box) and it was in neutral. plugged the connector back up and flipped the switch....Nothing but silence! and the lights came on! So it just seems to prime when in reverse only, because i ran thru the gears to make sure it didnt do it while just in gear.

however with the engine on there is no issues when put into reverse.
