Default Won't turn over please help!!

I'm new here and i have a problem. I have a 1995 chereokee and 2 weeks ago i was hit on the rear drivers quater pannel. I can fix it , not verry bad. I tiik it to a autobody shop for a estimate. Then a feild claim adjuster came out and totoaled it because of milage and year. But i kept it because it can be fixed for a couple of hundred dollars. It ran fine till he came and looked at it. Well today i went to start it and i got head light and every thing but it would not even click or turn over. Any ideas of what it could be like a switch like when it is in park. It is a automatic. Also does any one have a diagram for the fusebox becuase there is a fuse on my floor and i dont know where it goes. Please help i got the parts to fix the body but it won't even click when i turn the keys. I tried 4 other batterys.

I would start by seeing if it will start in any other gear or by wiggling the shifter. If it does it's the NSS.

  1. Stop the whining. "Please help!" It's just a car. You aren't calling 911 about somebody dying.
  2. Check your battery. Yes, you can get headlights and still not have enough juice to click the starter. Always start with the simple things first.
  3. Body damage might mean shorted wires. Check your fuses, etc.

The last 2 times my 95 XJ wouldn't even do anything it turned one time the big fuse up in the engine compartment that controls the ignition had blown and the other time the big black relay that controls the starter had blown. I'd check these 2 easy things first. Could be one of the smaller fuses under the dash too but I'd try the bigger ones up in the engine. There's a small diagram on the little lid that covers them over. You can see if it's the starter relay by temporarily swapping one from another position into it. But not something that is needed to run it.

Got a test light check for current on smaller wire on starter when some one turns key to run position if theres current starters bad if not then start checking connection/fuses try to keep a most likely simple repair simple ...

You need a test light or a meter, at least, preferably both. Throwing out wild guesses won't get you running. Take it one step at a time.

You also need the service manual, sometimes called the FSM. Check my thread on the IOD fuse issue I'm having - somebody kindly posted a diagram that may help you.

Ok i put it in neutral wiggled shifter and it started. So my auto part store has this for $184 http://www.1aauto.com/1A/NeutralSafe...FQhyQgodCE0A4w or can i just buy this part, but my local parts store don't have this http://www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/...FQfhQgodhGwAhA or is there a way to bypass it? I think the second one is for something else. So can i bypass it or will it hurt to start it in neutral?

If you get stuck somewhere and just have to get going (Because eventually the start in neutral trick won't work) you can bypass it simply by cutting and looping the 2 black wires together. All it's doing is completing the ground circuit for the starter motor. But it is also your backup light switch so if you bypass it you won't have backup lights. But it will start in park just like normal if you do until you get around to fixing it
