Hey guys, I just picked up a 88 Wagoneer Limited for a dune and mud buggie, problem is that something in the column isn't allowing it to start unless I move the tilt up and down and it will catch and start, sometimes I think it will never start. Any ideas, and how to's. Heres a pic, and thank you for any help

 

either something in the colums loose or electric ignition switch is going bad

 

pushing the coloumn up gets it to start right

 

only will start by moving wheel up and down, did just notice that the key goes foward smooth but catches a little in reverse

 

i would check the ignition switch on stering coloumn by right shin

 

does the sterring wheel wiggle all around left and right

 

no its tight, ok, so I just got this Monday and really havn't had time to mess with it. I just figured out that if you push the ignition in as far as it will go it will fire right up (previous owner said to move the tilt up and down), so do you think it could just be a bad lock?

 

all the lock does is turn back and forth theres a rod that move the switch its adjustable see the slots
