Default A/C Evaporator...Instructions?

So I have googled to the max and tried to find a good "how to" on changing out the evaporator. The few links I thought would be step by step were non working links. I have a haynes manual and it doesnt really give much detail. Just tells you how to get it out once you have the dash off etc.

Do any of you know a link or a site that tells how to do it step by step. I read somewhere you dont even have to remove the dash...that it can be loosened and pivoted? Any help would be greatly appreciated so I can have a/c and stop driving around a mobile sauna.

Thanks

Just remove the dash, on the 95 and prior it's easy, the 96-00 are more difficult. Just feel around for the screws and you shouldn't have much problem.

Mines a 94. To remove the dash must i remove the steering wheel and drop the column? Sounds easy to just say "just remove the dash"....but i am looking for some instructions on how to do this...never have before.

There aren't any written instructions that I know of for free. AllData might have some, but that's pricy. Sometimes you just gotta try

While you are in there might as well change the heater core to.

Yeah, swap the heater core. Anything before 97 let's coolant stagnate around there and clog. It's easier now than later.

Here's a q that hopefully won't hijack and will actually help the OP out. Would it be alright to have the system vacuumed to remove the refridgerant and then take it home to replace all of this? Or would the air allowed in the system cause problems?

I thought the condenser lines were valved. I don't think it matters, seeing as if you dump refrigerant, you're committing a felony.
