Ok let me do some research and I will re-post with the answers, if it is a bell housing issue do you no of a fix for it? Thanks for the your help!

Engine: 4.0, new lifters valve job with new springs and exhaust valves, preload set with shims

If they are different, maybe you could put the pcm from the other one in? don't know right now.

I don't have the other one, bought this one from a man that pulled it and replaced with bigger engine to use as a crawler, I will try to get the info from him.

I suggest looking up the available transmissions for a 97...cherokee? GC?

Ok! when I called my local auto selvage yard they said that only a 99 will fit a 99 that no other yr. models will work but they could not tell me why??

Ok thought of something else, the motor (97) distributor was a 2 wire were your cam sensor hooks up and my 99 had a 3 wire, so I swapped the distributor so the wiring would hook up.
