Alright guys I'll start off by saying that I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee XJ Sport. 4.Ol with the AW4. I drove a little ways yesterday and the transmission wouldn't shift into overdrive (would only shift up to 3rd gear. I have checked the fluid and its all good. I bought a new NSS a little while back maybe 6 months ago. I don't know if there is an overdrive fuse or if I need to try and clean my NSS or readjust it. And on top of the overdrive, I can;t start my XJ in neutral (has to be in park to start) and I have no reverse lights.

Do you have cruise control? If so, does it work? If not it may be your brake switch. When you depress the brake it disengages both the TC and cruise. I had a shifting problem and replaced my solenoids recently and all was well. The next day it wouldn't lock the TC nor would my cruise work. I was very upset but then I remembered someone talking about the brake switch. I pulled up on the back of the pedal with my foot and it immediately locked up and cruise worked. Otherwise it could be a solenoid. Read post 7 in this link https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/tra...roblems-88637/ for a relatively easy way to check your solenoids. If it is a solenoid here's the thread I used to replace mine http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/a.../717206?page=1 . Good luck.

NSS is your problem,
All the symptoms point to that
Springs on contacts stick there will be a thread on how to do it
It's not hard just a bit fiddely
I think you will need dialectic grease to reassemble with

Hey guys sorry I haven't replied for a while. But I tested the cruise control and it still works and gets disengaged when i push the brakes. I'm gonna try to remove the NSS and clean it again and get back to yall.

The NSS works the reversing lights the safety start and signals the gear changes so.

Alright so I cleaned the NSS and reverse lights still don't work but it will start in park and neutral. I'm not very worried about the reverse lights at this point. I adjusted my kick down cable (pushed the conduit all the way back) and overdrive now kicks in. But the throttle wont open all the way and I can't floor board it to pass cause the pedal is no restricted by the kick down cable

With the engine off, push the accelerator all the way to the floor and the TV cable will go into the proper position.

Well, that cable has nothing to do with shifting points but everything to do with the harshness of the shift based on throttle position. Perhaps you have a bad TPS?
