Default wont come out of 4 part time

hi i have a 91 jeep limited and it is stuck in part time. some times i can get it out in to 4 full time but not for long. it makes a funny grinding noies then goes back in too part time. i think the linkage needs to be readjust but i wont to know if it could be another problem. i looked for the football vacumme but could not find it. i think it was sapose to be behind the bumper.

I am assuming you have the NP242. My 242 is tempermental sometimes and will not want to come out of 4wheel part time without a fight. My only solution is to make sure all of your tires have adequete and even pressure. I dont know why it makes a difference but it seems to help me. I was told this ny the previous owner of my XJ when I bought it. He had issues as well.

This is a common problem for the 242. Find a nice spot on gravel and do some tough turns in reverse.

you need that bushing or the linkage will bind up causing it to not move correctly

you should be able to find a good bushing there. no need to get the whole linkage. i know the only place you can get a brand new bushing is the dealership
