I am in the process of making a custom dash.

While cleaning up wiring I found wires running through the kick panel just above the door speaker wires.

Anyone know what they are? I haven't looked very closely...

The black and white pair just above the door speaker wires...

Both driver and passenger side has them! And from the interior they run just above the door speakers, but not through both sheets of metal. They actually run up into the body towards the engine bay.

 

have you followed them either direction?

 

Briefly...after they went into the kick panel they go up. I could take 60 seconds and follow again.

I can stop being lazy. I guess.

 

It goes into the main wire harness that also holds the two main plugs for the gauge cluster.

The other side I cannot tell. Just...up.

 

I dont have my xj with me or I would check if I had them! Dan said he didnt.

 

I noticed. And we have close years, too.

That's annoying.

 

If no one knows I will look after work!

 

door ajar switch wiring.

they plug into the little switch that should be screwed into the front of the door frame. open door = interior lights turn on, and annoying buzzer as well.

why cut it? they pull right out with some help of a screwdriver, once you remove the switch.

 

I guess cut wasn't the right word.

But they are getting tucked into the harness. Not needed, just in the way.

My dash is 100% out as is, so I want to clean and simplify everything possible before putting in the sheetmetal dash.

 

Take your time making that dash. Most people slap them together & it looks awful! Imo

 

I take my time doing everything. Lol

Confirmed door ajar switches. Wires gone.

 

There is a thread here somewhere about a metal dash. I am using it as some info.
