Rear DS lighting plug

Greetings- I need some help deciphering some wires. The destroyed plug in photo is located behind the spare tire. I needed to get the vehicle home so I cut the wires and removed the plug. As I started to splice the wires back together I became aware some of the wire colors were different from one side of plug to the other. Wires in question are a brown yellow before the plug that did not have a brown yellow after the plug. I hooked that to brown which powered up left taillight. I cannot find a brown wire in my Hanes manual. The following wires did not have matching wires after the plug and are currently not connected- brown / white, brown/ red, and what I think is violet/ orange. Also, there was a black wire coming into the plug that was a bit larger wire than the black after the plug. I hooked these two blks together.
Is there anyone out there that can read wiring diagrams better than myself that can verify my connections are good? Thanks Chris

 

Please provide the year model XJ. There maybe differences, then hopefully someone with a factory manual can find that info, or if they have that year, go look at their XJ to get that info to you.

I assume that is tail light wires, rights? is the proper sized fuse installed?

 

oh yeah, sorry. It’s a 2000 XJ limited 4.0 auto. Yes proper fuse but water got up in there and shorted it out because the inner fender was rotted out. Drivers side.
