Window regulator broke with the window down
Hi everybody, the window regulator on my passenger side broke a couple days ago. It seems that the gears inside that the crank turns have become stripped. It just spins and makes a grinding sound when cranked. I can deal with not rolling down the window until I get a new regulator, but the window is stuck down and it rains almost constantly here in Juneau. Does anybody have any tips on how to just get the window up for now? Maybe just a diagram of how the mechanism works so I can get in there and manually manipulate the regulator?
Any help is greatly appreciated, black plastic covering my window is really cutting my field of view.
Thanks,
Jordan

Not sure if you have auto or manual windows. I have the same problem w/ mine, but my windows stays up. Either way, if it is manual, you will have to remove the door panel and reach in and push it up. Not sure if it would be as easy for power windows. good luck!

On an electric windowed KJ with a broken clip holding the glass to regulator- since the glass was already disconnected, I simply pushed the glass up and blocked it with wood until a new clip was found. I suspect the same will work for an XJ.
Access through the door panel(s).

This may be your be your problem and an upgrade solution for about $40 + shipping. I did this on a Liberty and recommend it.
