will a dana 44 from a 96 grand cherokee fit an xj?
So I kinda doubt it but will a rear dana 44 from a grand cherokee fit an 88 cherokee? I haved looked high and low for a regular cherokee d44...

Sounds straightforward.. how does the 8.8 compare to the d44 in strength and durability? Also what years explorers will fit?

8.8 is real close to the 44 in strength but it has c-clips and hangs a little bit lower. Find one with disc brakes and the c-clips aren't as big of an issue. Also it's 2" narrower than a stock xj axle so you might need spacers if you don't have enough offset on your wheels.
