Who KNOWS oils? Diff oil needed

Who KNOWS oils? Diff oil needed
Putting a new to me diff in today (open diff, 35c) that supposedly has 180k mi on it. Should I just stick with what the specs say, or go slightly higher viscosity, synthetic, both, other?
