Xj engine is making a whining noise . upon revving it almost sounds like a big air leak. and when getting on it , if i reach about 4k rpm then it will not accelerate it almost decellerates.

Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Check all of the vac lines also check the intake manifold to make sure that it's tight especially to the rear of the engine.

Will do. It loses most the power with the pedal to the floor.

I have an OEM K&N air filer on my '91 and it doesn't do that. Maybe just something in the manufacturing of that particular filter.

This also happened to my xj when I swiched to a Airaid cold air filter (cone). Only happens when I drive over 30 mph, not when reving in neutral. Very strange. The tone changes the faster I go.Any ideas??

Maybe the wind is whistling through the grill where the air box used to be??? Just a thought.
