I've had some hard starts lately, cranks but does not start, turn key off, cranks and starts. Checked codes today with key switch. Only significant code:

42 An open or shorted condition detected in the auto shutdown relay circuit. An open condition detected in the ASD relay output circuit. An open or shorted condition detected in the fuel pump relay control circuit. An open circuit between PCM and fuel gauge sending unit. Circuit shorted to voltage between PCM and fuel gauge sending unit. No movement of fuel level sender detected.

Fuel level gauge seems to be working.

Have not been messing with the wiring lately either.

Swap out the relay with a spare maybe?

 

Swapped in an old spare relay, started fine. Turned off and it still had code 42 saved. Disconnected battery, started fine again, no code.

 

BTW, THIS is the correct relay, not the big giant ABS relays that every parts store think we use for everything in that box:
