Default Fuel Filter

I'm not 100% positive cause I don't have the later model like yours, but it should be inside on the driver's side framerail just ahead of the fuel tank.

It's a sock-style in the tank connected directly onto the pump assembly.

Since the filter is in the tank, is it meant to be changed at regular intervals?

All late models have the filter integrated into the fuel pump assembly in the tank. You only change the filter if you are replacing the whole pump. It is not necessary to change the filter any other time. It is a pain in the *** to replace, I had a TJ with the same pump/filter assembly and you don't want to do it unless you have to.
