So guys, I just replaced my harmonic balancer and front seal on my 91 XJ and figured I would show what a bad HB looks like for those who aren't for sure.

Notice the chunks of the rubber insert missing, and how nasty, grungy, and rusty it was becoming.

Just thought it would help people figure when their HB starts going, because you dont want one of these guys goin out and grenading through the front of your rig.

Did you check the fuel injector bearings and the starter fluid applicator?

I was told if you can move the HB with your hand, its time to replace it.

Fuel injector bearings ... waaaiiit a minute... Do you find that in the same aisle as high grade ceramic muffler bearings and turn signal fluid?

Same aisle as the seat cover grease.

I had an Oldmobile that lost all of the rubber from the HB. The outer ring just slid around and made a bunch of noise.

i recently had a 91 xj and i was driving in the snow all day without a problem and i knew the hB was on its way out. i left it and i went to make a turn the power steering stopped working it over heated i couldnt figue what it was. the engine would run and none of the pulleys would spin. i pulled the belt off to replace because it was shot and the outer peice of the HB just fell off
