You need a slidehammer to get the bearings out. Check the axle shafts for wear at the spot where the bearing rides for grooves and pitting. If there is any abnormal wear in those places you need to replace the shafts. If you reuse a damaged shaft you will ruin the new bearing in no time.

Yes, what Busted said.
AutoZone(or other auto parts store) has the tools you need in their loaner tool section.
You will need the slide hammer, and the bearing puller attatchment for the slide hammer(2 separate loaner tools) should take you about 30seconds to pull the bearings once you have these.
Also, you may want to get the bearing/race installer tool as well to tap in the new bearings.........or use a large enough socket.........or use one of the old bearings to tap against the new bearing.
I have never used Royal Purple......Some people swear by it. I have always used Mobil-1, and never had any issues.
i don't think i would ever pay that much for Royal Purple, but you only need to buy 2 qts.........and you don't need to change it that often, so for $32-$35.........it's not really much money for peace of mind.

I use a piece of pipe or a broom handle from the opposite side. Take both axles out an slide something in from one side all the way through. Catch it on the bearing an tap it our.

As far as gear oil. I think either one would be fine to use. I used RP in my frnt, t-case and rear diff. It was about 100 bucks including the permatex silicone. I'm just partial to RP. No reason for using them. That's jsut what I chose to use. Mobile 1 will be fine.

Well, some wires got crossed or something. I found why I didn't remember pulling C clips to remove my rear axles. There are none, at least on the 84. (axles ate still in the barn, no groove).
