95 limited, stock but loved and cared for @ 82,000. 15 mpg city ( with a reasonably heavy foot) and 21mpg on a run @ 85 mph all the way, ( we dont have pointless speed limits like you
)

If your interested on how I did this without Raleigh it to a shop I'll be glad to tell you. Just ask. Happy trails

you hit the big secret not many people realize...the amount of ethanol in pump gas varies depending on were you live...in my area of VA its only about 10% but i have seen it as high as 40% in my travels...i sure there is higher amounts in other places...
while i am on my soap box
if anyone wants better gas milage; they should make sure they are burning ALCOHOL free gas...
ethanol also causes your engine to run hotter...which causes oil life to be shorter which also reduces fuel efficiancy
also alcohol displaces/dilutes oil which in causes premature failure of seals and lube in the fuel system..thus reducing milage even more....
so if you want better mpg's just stay away from alcohol...
98 sport, 4.0, auto, 29" tires, cement driving shoes... with 95%city driving...still getting @15mpg may be 10% off due to not having a corrected odometer... but i am happy with my wilderness tranporter!

WRONG! Alcohol burns cooler, BUT the stoichiometric ration is much lower requiring more fuel for that same amount of air as gas. "A gallon of 10 percent ethanol-enriched gasoline contains about 112,000 BTU of heat energy, compared to 114,000 BTU for straight gasoline." Your also flowing more fuel with alcohol so it can remove heat faster.

yes, you are correct and thank you for pointing out my errors...
i should have wrote, " ethanol enriched fuels causes your engine to run hotter by increasing friction with in the cyliders", "hotter engines causes shortened oil life" ...
to be on point, BTU's are used for measuring heating ability and are not realevent to my point...
power production is more spicific to my point...which is measured in joules...
along with friction co-efficiancy(increased with ethanol), kinetic friction(increased with ethanol), and the ability of the oil to lubricate(reduced with ethanol)
again thank you for your eagle eye...and giving me the oppertunity to correct my self...

As for the friction, Ive never heard any mention of it. Even it it were less lubricant I dont see how that would be an issue. The lubrication happens out side the combustion chamber where the oil is. A mix of an air fuel mixture is goin to do little to lubricate anything. And as for the ethanol ruining the oils ability to lubricate thats BS!. Over time this may be the case but if you change your oil regularly it wont affect your engine.

My old Cherokee: 1990 XJ Laredo, 4.0L, AW4, 4x4, Dana 30/35, 3.55's, 225/75R15 A/T's. When she was stock, I got around 24mpg average with mostly city driving, got up to 27 on the highway.
Lifted 8" on 36x13.5R15 IROKs, Dana 44/30, 4.56's, Olympic high hat roof rack with roof rack mounted 36x12.5R15, 16mpg average in city like driving. Think I was running around 14mpg on the highway with that setup (
hills).
My '92 Comanche, 4.0L, AX15, NP231, 4x4, 30/35, 3.07's. Was running around 21mpg average with mostly city like driving. Went on a nice trip to get some parts two states down and got around 25mpg on the highway.
The key is to know how to drive and how your rig performs. Give her enough gas to get where you need to but not pedal to the metal all the time.
