Default what years of aw4 trannys will work in an 88???

So I have been lookin all over for a tranny pump for my 88 but so far no luck.. I may have to get a whole transmission.. what years are the same as 88? Thanks!

if i recall it depends on the transfer case. 231 or 242. i think the splines are different. dont quote me. someone may chime in and correct me. if i didnt live in indiana, i would give you an aw4. i have a spare. heck i would even stongly consider delivering it to you just to visit big sky country. (jk)

it's a good spare or replacement ya know. if i take the pump out then the rest of it is just scrap. i wish i could help you brother.

84-90 uses 21 spline, 91-01 uses 23.

Yeah no worries, that's the trouble I'm havin findin one, lots of whole trannies but no one with just a pump

no. the aw4 behind the 4.0 is ONLY available from 1987 to 1990.


that's for a bolt-in replacement.

if you're having shifting issues, you MUST replace the torque converter. and unless you want a brand new one, that limits you to buying a 1987 to 1990.

Not sure, I just know the spline counts. Most likely it would be the same but im not sure.

For the price of the pump you might be better off just buying a whole new junkyard trans..

Yeah so far that's how its lookin.. I can't even find a new pump anywhere!
