Default What year front diff axle shafts interchange???

My '89 axle shaft u-joint is shot and I've got a trip Saturday so I don't have the time to pull the ujoints and swap them but I have a 91 or 93 readily available to pull if need be, are the spline counts the same? Thanks

I Think so. It's the transfer case splines that changed at some point. Then the rears changed from a C-clip to a pressed hub at some point...I think.

On the early "command track" with the front vacuum "disco" on the right, A guy would need to pull the front "pumpkin", to install the inner seal for a one-piece, right front axle. If the replacement were the 1/2 axle from another "command Track" , It should go pretty easy.

Btw, I drove my 90 a couple of years with the right front U-joint pretty shot. It would click and clack turning in 4WD, but just "tick" on the highway. (I'd hear it passing retaining walls and guard rails. (the echo))

So the shafts don't change through the years?

I've heard you can also install CV joints/axles from grand cherokees. Not sure what years interchange. I' ve heard it's a much cheaper alternative, especially for a daily driver and not a rock-crawler.

Anyone help us out with those years?

If I'm not mistaken any D30 shafts from any year XJ TJ or ZJ will work, unless you have a vac disconnect axle. In which case you will be stuck with the disconnect axles.

The axles I'm thinking about don't have a u-joint... those cost about 200$.. grand cherokee cv-axles only cost about 40$...

Again, anyone have those years/models?
