What year was common for blown head gaskets?

Default What year was common for blown head gaskets?

I am buying a Cherokee and i heard there was a year they changed the engine and commonly blew head gaskets. Does anyone know what year that was??

2000 and 2001 have heads that can crack. But never heard of any Jeep I6 motor with weak head gaskets.

no head gasket issues. just the 0331 casting issue in late 99-01 models.

A dealership will charge about 7hrs labor. To pull the head and replace it, not including parts of course.

head is 495 from alabama cylinder head. then you need a head and valve cover gasket. could be around 600-700 after oil change and new plugs. thats if you do the work yourself.

7hrs at around $75-95 hr

How do you know if it is a 0331 head casting?

I believe only the 2000 and 2001 have them. I have an 01, and it has it.

if it was built after 10/09- 2001 then it the bad 0331 head casting unless its been replaced by a previous owner already.
