Question what tranny do I have?

on my quest for no fluid leaks, I found the tail shaft seal is leaking. no biggie right? that's what I thought. I just replaced the trans filter and pan gasket and all I was asked at the parts store was auto or manual. now they want to know what type of tranny I have. I told them the transfer case is a NP231 but that wasn't good enough. I looked for a tag but failed to find one. so what is it???

If you changed a trany filter you have an aw4,as manuals do not have them, and you have 4wheel drive so the tail shaft leak you have is on the xfer case, unless it is leaking between the trany and xfer case.

it's the tail shaft seal, I thought telling them the transfer case would get it because like you said the seal is in the transfer case. I was just surprised they claim there is three different automatic transmissions

That's funny that there were 3 used. Should tell them to brush up on their knowledge and not what the computer tells them.

Could it be these you're referring to...
