2001 Cherokee Limited, stock height and drive train - 167000 miles. On rapid acceleration while turning left a loud rattling noise coming from right front corner of Jeep. I best describe as an engine pinging noise, but it only occurs on left turns. Does not make this sound during acceleration turning right or straight ahead.

Thinking it had to be the u-joint, I disassembled both sides to check. I cannot find any play or binding in either the left or right side axle shaft u-joints. Put both axles in vice to secure and pushed, pulled, twisted and rotated not finding any issue. Anyone have possible ideas?

No body has any suggestions? Cannot believe I am the only XJ to have this issue.

Well front wheel bearing could be possibly bad.
Have you had a look underneath at all?

Lift the front and see if there is any play in the wheel: grab top and bottom and check for play (balljoints) and left and right (tierods)

And extended version will be:
Disconnect your rear drive shaft
Put in 4wd
Raise the front
Go underneath while someone starts the engine and turns the steering to the left to see if that reproduces rhe symptoms (not driving that is)

Thanks Roler for suggestions. Yes I did grab the tires after jacking up the front axle. No play found in either direction by grabbing the wheels. I started the Jeep and placed into 4H. At idle and turning the steering in both directions did not produce any noticeable noise. And as stated earlier after pulling both axles I found the u-joints to be okay.

I have purchased new wheel bearing hubs. Planning on reinstalling everything along with the new hubs. Don't think this will fix anything, but I will see...sure hope there is something going bad inside of front differential!

Check your motor mounts. See if the mech fan is hitting the shroud.
