Default what part of the exhaust system leaks and makes the ticking noises

just picked up my 2001 xj sport 4wd 117000 miles seems well taken care of. just a few querks..

hear a ticking noise from the driver side engine compartment much louder when cold then when hot due to expanding metals im guessing.

what part of the 4.0 exhaust system is more prone to leaks like this? the gasket at the manifold and engine? the gasket from the manifold to the downpipe? the manifold itself with a crack?

im sure this is a very common problem and im wanting to know where i need to put my wrench first to fix it quick.

Could be the manifold gasket.... it will expand and contract with heat...

There's a weep hole in the front of the muffler. Maybe that's what you're hearing?

figured it out...turns out it was the downpipe from the manifold wasnt sealed together properly. apparently whoever owned it before me has had it apart there for some reason and it wasnt a good seal all the way around....easy fix...and free

darn...and i was gonna suggest that! it not nessesarly was apart, when i ripped my cat and muffler off for the 3rd time (axle dump) then i put alot of stress on the down pipe so it moved it a little and made it leak, but like u said easy fix...and FREE!!!
