Oh, where to begin....

First my mothers 98 xj has had a very high idle (1,200 - 900 rpm). I was thinking it was the tps or throttle plate itself sticking so I used a little oil on the spring and shaft to see if that would help. I think it deffinitly made a difference but it still will not idle lower than 800 rpm.

The other weird thing I have noticed is that the brakes are very firm and do not have any power kind of like the booster is not working right. I did read somewere that the booster could have torn and that could cause the problems but I dont know.

The jeep does have 193,000 miles and is used for hauling hay wagons around as well as other stuff.

Well it does not feel like its froze, it just fells way to firm and when you step on the petal it has little to no stopping power.

Sometime you have to find a vacuum leak with something like ether. Also check the check valve at the brake booster.

How do you use ether? is'nt it to flammable to be using around a running engine? And how would you check the check valve?

Like has been said, you have a leak or crack in the vacuum line or the fittings leading to the brake booster.
