Default What is this optional wire for?

I have the interior torn out of my '98 XJ.
(PO was a careless smoker who burned many holes in every damn thing.
Even the shift indicator has a hole burned through it. Surprised he didn't set the carpets on fire.)

Anyways in pulling the carpet I spotted this wire taped under the rear seat.
I could use a power source for seat heaters.

What color are the wires? I know on my 93 everything that is org/blk & blk are connected to the headlight switch lighting for the interior.

Black and red with a gray stripe. Unswitched 12vdc there at all times.

I have been watching this thread to find out.
Never ripped up enough to find that wire assuming I have one in my '00.
But almost positive that my seat belt light is black and smaller.
Also more forward coming out under the console.

Nah, The seat belt lights are small gauge wires that go to the seat belt buckle assembly.
This is some sort of power cable.

Being on at all times limits what you can do with it.
If anybody left something turned on it would quickly drain the battery.

Definitely changed some from 1993. Here is a pic of mine. While I do have a red/blk (red circle) that isn't plugged in to anything the red does not have a gray stripe but it is also hot with the key off. And you can see how my harness comes from the left rear passenger's side (red arrow) then splits into a gray wire (yellow arrow) which is the e-brake ground and the org/blk wires that go to the lights for the shifters (purple arrow).

I'll probably just wire one of these in the the rear of the Jeep.
Most modern SUVs have power points near the rear hatch anyways.

I'll find out what fuse its wired to when my kids blow it.

looks to be the wire you plug into the seat, Does your jeep have a chime when you turn the key in the run position?

No, it has manual seats and it isn't the seat belt wire.
Factory taped and left under the rear seat carpet.

I can't find it in 8W of the FSM either.
