I run valvoline full synthetic high milage. With Wix filters unless the K&n filters are on sale.

Right now I have PYB 10W30 and a Pure One filter because that's what was on sale.
I've run Valvoline, Quaker State, Peak, quite a bit of Rotella...the motor doesn't care one way or another. I don't think it can read the bottle.
I normally run 15/40 in the summer but switched down to 10/30 this summer as the 15/40 made the engine noise worse this time. Motor's getting tired.
I change it at 3K, not worried about extended intervals.

That I-6 engine has been around for 49 years and no-one yet has proven what oil works best. Of the many engines to make it to 300k and beyond they have done it with every brand and type of oil on the market. Since it is designed like a tractor engine I run 15-40 fleet oil, like everything else on the farm.

Default What oil not to use

Perhaps maybe a better question is what oil not to use. Lucus products are high on my list. So is slick 50. What about honey oil? How about Bardall? Rislone has shown some promise. MMO....

I'm from Indiana and am about to do my rear main and oil pan gasket. I used Rotella 10w30 on my last oil change. I'm looking to stick with Rotella but I'm not sure to stick with the 10w30 or switch to the 15w40 or something else? It does get below 0* sometimes but not always unless its a really cold winter. I started using the WIX filter and plan on using the 51515 filter this time around. Any input would greatly be appreciated

Try Rotella T6 5W-40.

Stay with the 51515.

Jumped to post, will read thread in its entirety later.....

in my '88 comanche I ran Castrol GTX and Quaker State 10w-30, switching between these two for sale prices....

and ran FRAM exclusively for over 120K miles !!!! the only thing mechanical other then maintenance is I replaced a cracked exhaust manifold......

I've only done one oil change in my XJ in over a year that I've had it, though I've only put 5k since then... I forget what oil I used but I have a wix on there now

I plan to use rotella as I always have plenty around

oh and as far as Lucas and many other additives, it will destroy the lubricity of the oil, in turn not helping but hindering as will MOST additives....!!!

but hey the labels looks cool
