Ok so ill try to make this short and explain whats happening the best i can. 1995 cherokee country. 4x4 auto.
Alrighty for the fun stuff... for the past couple of weeks Ive been getting this problem were ill be driving or at idle in drive park or neutral. Lets say like today on my way to work... i was driving along and boom jeep died so i thru it in neutral turn the key and nothing( when i say nothing its that it wont turn over like dead...but the fuel pump primes got spark etc.) BUT!!!!!!!!!! heres the brain picking teaser for you guys. when this all happens i open my door turn the key and vvvrrrooooomm and im off on my way. Now wtf is causing this stall out and have to open my door for it to turn over???

SO today i spent 3hrs around and under my jeep tryin g to figure this out let along were getting heavy rain and its 40 degrees out. I checked this
*spark...had spark then lost spark
*spark plugs
*put a new coil on
*cps is new
*ground wires etc
I put a bottle of ISOHEET in today also.

So i finnaly got it started yessss. i get home shut it down and turn it back on...guess what happens? everything turned on and primed but dead at the starter... Till i opened my door and she fired right up!!! What is this problem here?

Alarm?
remote start?
??????

this is my DD and i need to get this figured out and thanks guys for your time.

I guess I would start by pulling the fuse for the security see if that changes anything. If not pull the door panel start looking for shorts in the door. Do you have to shut the door before it will start or does the door need to be open. If you gotta slam the door maybe check the NSS. Grasping for straws at this point. Maybe and issue with the door light switch

Weird! it does sound like broken wire(s) in the door to body boot. There are alarm wires to the power door lock IIRC.

did cherokees come factory with alarms? where is the alarm fuse/relay located?

also no all i have to do is open and shut the door and it fires up. i dont have to slam it or anything. Now i put a new coil in today and the jeep has not died yet (knock on wood lol) but i did have to use the door trick 1 time after i powerd the jeep down and restarted it. how would i know if it has an alarm on it???? what should i consider looking for????

My 2000 had a Mopar alarm dealer installed alarm installed, I'm not sure if your 95 has an alarm. Seeing as this strange event happens with both front doors I doubt it is a broken wire related to the alarm. Quite the mystery you have. All I can suggest is to make sure your battery is healthy and clean your battery cables and ground wires.

I think you have a ground problem. The computer probably shares a ground with something related to your interior lights. I'd get a wiring diagram and see if you can find the common link. Sidenote, when I was in technical school learning how to work on cars, the instructor bugged a car so that the engine died when using the left turn signal! No one could figure it out, so he showed us that the left turn signal bulb shared a ground with the PCM and when used, caused the PCM to lose its ground because he put a piece of tape behind the ground strap to simulate a badly corroded connection. It might reset the computer when you open the door. I hope this helps.
