Default what is that little box on the pass side?

ok in the motor compartment on the passenger side by the fuse panel there is a little relay box or something.. i was wondering what that was.. i had a problem with my lights staying on and i tracked one of the three wires over to that box/relay and when i unplugged the relay i could turn my lights on and off.. before as soon as i plugged my battery in the lights would come on (brights at that) and they wouldnt go off even when the dimmer switch was pulled..

so if anybody has any info on what that box may be that would be nice.. i have four 96 cherokees and none of them have this box but the one that i drive does.. please any info on what that relay is would be nice.. im thinking its a headlight delay box to where your headlights dont shut off as soon as you hit your headlight switch.. idk though.. again let me know what that box is..

i just unplugged it and i can turn my lights on and off fine btw

Bump. Somebody has to know why that box is? Whatever it was was important to the lights. I had the everything unplugged infer the dash at First an when the lights wouldn't go off I went as far as unplugging the interior harness from the motor bay harness at the firewall. The lights still stayed on with the interior harness unplugged from the bay harness. So that box is some kind of importance to the lights. Please somebody tell me what it is. It's driving me nuts. Is it just a delay box that was stuck?

Relays and fuses are what is contained in there but most refer to it as the passenger side relay box.

Nooo. I know that is the relay box. I'm talking about a little box near there. I'll get a pic of it. The little box I'm talking about is by the hood hinge kinda. It's bolted to the frame. If you read in my previous posts I stated that I have 4 96 Cherokees and only ONE has this box. ALL jeeps will have the RELAY BOX.

I'll get a pic but have no idea how to post it up.

Sorry... i'm not seeing one on my '95, so i can't really help w/o a pic.

The only suggestion is... download a pic from your computer to PhotoBucket.com

Then Copy and Paste the IMG Code to "this" area in the thread! > X

Try that and we'll try to answer your question...

any chance your jeep might of been from canada?
Im looking through the FSM and it looks like it might be the DRL (daytime running lamps) module

YESSSSSS!!!! it's from Canada!!! That's EXACTLY what I thought that module was but wasn't sure. It's stuck and was causing my lights to never go off even when the jeep was turned off and the key was out of the ignition. I can't have that but yes thank you for the clarification!!! I was certain that's what it was but i wanted a for sure answer. It won't hurt anything being unplugged correct? I don't see why it would but just asking.

I dont think itll hurt anything being unplugged, I think this is a pretty common issue and the common "fix" is to disconnect it.

Well I'm new to jeeps so I had no clue where to look and had no manual the night I tracked this down. Couldn't find a schematic anywhere online so I just tracked down the three main constant power wires coming off my headlight harness. The blue/black tracer wire branched off and went over there and so did the orange one so I unplugged that box and shebang!! They went off and on from the switch no prob. I am not a newb working on cars by any means but this was just weird in my eyes lol. Thanks though again.
