Noon question here but where's the best places to get new gears and how much does it usually cost. Looking to upgrade to 4.10

depending on axles. I would say to assume about 500 bux for the gears alone for both axles. Then about another 600-800 to have them installed.

x2 i would budget about $1500.

You not only need the gears, But depends on what you have in there now you might need a new carrier, you also need a master instal kit for each axle. And then all of that needs to be installed. About $300-$500 per. Alot of shops dont mess with gears any more either. Just call around and see what people say

In high school my old jeep was sittin on 33's with 4.10's and I could roast my bfg mud terrains. Switched to swamper tsl's and they were to sticky. AS far as mpg I'm not 100% sure. I was in high school and didn't car to much about that but i think I was gettin around 220-250 a tank. I think 4.56's would be the way to go.

Just make sure he sets up the gear contact patch right. or you will find out real quick what happens when 4 tires magically stop turning....

34's? Can't say I've seen 34's.
As long as he knows what he's going as far *** axles go. Your one up on the rest of use. I'm too chicken to touch the axles. Though I've always wanted to buy one just to learn on it.

In my experience go one deeper than what you wanted cause you'll which you had.....so if ya want 4.10's go with 4.56's, you'll be happier in the long run.

I dug up this thread and its very helpful. I have a '91 auto and plan on getting 4.5" lift with 31's maybe up to 33's but I'm not sure yet. This is a DD. I'm in florida so I don't need the gears for hills. To get better gas mileage, would 4.10's be good? And if so, will it be cheaper to get a whole new axle from a pick-n-pull or buy the gears brand new?
