Default What do I do with my old engine?

I rebuilt a junkyard engine to replace the one with a cracked head that I was previously running. I basically have a complete 2000 xj engine, that actually runs pretty good despite the cracked head. I kind of feel bad taking it to the scrapper. Any ideas? Anyone need one of these? I also have a crank and cam out of my junkyard motor that is in pretty good shape. Just thought I would ask. I would make someone a heck of a deal if they needed it.

Since you have 25+ posts you could offer the parts for sale in the classifieds section.

Replace the head and store it away in case I need it at some point.

x2, or even better stroke it! I just swapped the engine out of my '92 with one from a '98. Plan on rebuilding my '92 and stroking it to 4.7.

Or if you really do just want to find it a good home post it up on craigslist, or find a local Jeep or 4x4 club, I'm sure someone in your area can put it to good use.

Awesome addition! Replace the head, stroke it, and store it away in case I need it at some point

I got a junkyard engine out of a 94 and stroked it to 4.7. Thats what I just put in my 2000! Although..... one can never have too many strokers..... In case my wife asks, this conversation never happened.

There is no real good reason to keep that head around is there? I am thinking I'll just pull the valves and add it to the scrap pile.

I would hang on to the head personally. Might need it as a core for a good head. Hell you could rebuild it and sell it to recoup some of the cost of your stroker.

That is a good point. Never hurts to have it for a core. Looks like I have another garage ornament!

I just hesitate building another 2000 engine if I am going to have the same head issues as before.

You can use any HO head, there is nothing wrong with the '00 - '01 block.

My 94 block did not have head locator pins on it, for some reason I thought the 2000 did. Are the heads still interchangeable? The 2000 block had some modifications that I thought were pretty good ideas. Camshaft retainer bracket, the bracket that spans across the entire main on the bottom side of the engine.

I'm pretty sure the heads are interchangeable. Someone with more knowledge on this will probably chime in if I'm wrong. I think the only issue is the older head doesn't have a spot to mount the coil pack, nothing that can't be fixed with some redneck engineering.

I ran into that with my new engine being a 94. I made some brackets out of flat steel stock that bolt onto the rocker cover studs. Holds that coil pack rail very solidly in place. I will look into the interchangeability of the heads.
