what could be wrong with my short shaft?

it feel like its slamming against the floorboard when i drive u joints or a bearing?

yes...so many directions one could go with that....


check the DRIVEshaft for motion or imbalance

I'm gonna get flamed for this or quoted in a sig line, but grease the shaft and see if has less travel.

Might be a steering issue (trac bar bracket floating) etc

transmission mount and motor mounts are bad... causes the rear driveshaft to come up and hit the floorboards when in the gas... FIX IT NOW... my motor twisted in the engine bay and stuck the fan in the radiator... which just cost me more... lol...

If you grease the shaft, won't it have more travel, and travel faster?

Any way, HuntingMan, I'm havin the same issue. It will make a smacking sound from the rear if I spin the tires in gravel, or other loose stuff.

Scared the hell outta me the first time, but I just turned the radio up afterwards. So it's potentially dangerous from what my understanding is?

if the driveshaft is hitting the floorboard... uh yeah... not good... get under the jeep and benchpress the tailshaft... if the tranny mount seperates... its bad... i had to replace all this in a Roses parking lot cause i didnt want to pay to tow... lol... and i had a BA-10 so i had to special order my tranny mount...

PS... youll see where the driveshaft has been smacking the floorboard if it is... near the tailshaft end...

the drive shaft cannot smack the body. IF the tranny mount is shot, the TC might slam the floor board or the crossmember. IF the engine mounts are bad (usually the right one) the exhaust is going to concert somewhere.

How in the world can the driveshaft hit the floor board and still be connected to something at both ends? Post pics please have got to see this!
