What is this called?
Buy the assembly, if I remember it's like $16 for both pieces. If you just try to use a bolt (as I did I think it was 6mm, what could be simpler?) you will never be able to take up the slop. When the pin falls out the bore in the bracket is wallowed out. Every time you open or close that door it will produce a very noticable "snapping" sound. Everyone from your family members to strangers @ the grocery store will stare at you wondering what the hell just happened. Spend the $16 & be done with it.
Easiest way to catch that rod is to almost close the door completely, stick a screwdriver or punch of the correct size through both the rod & the bracket. Open the door you will feel it catch on one of the stops, remove the tool.
ETA: Shameless plug, I ordered mine from Morris 4x4.

I missed this before I posted. Do you know where the assembly can be purchased, I can't find one.
Bracket, Check Arm1984-2001 Jeep Cherokee Xj Part # 55002361 $7.99
Pin, Check Arm 1984-2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ Part # 55012900AB $5.99
Excellent, thanks for the info! Should be money well spent, that noise drives me nuts.
